Mike is an excellent trainer with many happy clients. Mike does in-home appointments mainly in Old Town, Lincoln Park, the Gold Coast, and Andersenville. He also trains at many private personal training gyms in the same general area. Mike competed with many Chicago area athletes to be on the American Gladiators show. He trained hard with Beth Horn (the Gladiator "Venom"). He was ready, and passed all the physical aspects of the tryouts with flying colors ("It was pretty easy," he said), but wasn't chosen for the show. We suspect that it's because he had no tragic story, no crisis to overcome, and no great cause they could attribute to him. The producers like that kind of stuff... WE think he'd have made a heck of a gladiator!
Mike recently moved to Chicago from Alabama and has been working in the fitness industry in some capacity since 1993. He earned a B.S. in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Exercise Physiology in 2000 from the University of Central Arkansas. Over the years Mike has been fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with a clientele which has included those training from the most general weight loss goals and improving endurance to more specific sports oriented goals. Mike also worked in cardiac rehab for three years while in Little Rock, AR and has also worked with many Parkinson's patients over the years.
Currently Mike is training for his 2nd Men's Health Urbanathalon which will be here in Chicago sometime this fall. This is an amazing race covering 12 miles and several obstacle courses creating an even greater challenge for the contestants. All the money raised by the race supports the work of the Challenged Athletes Foundation, an organization committed to helping people with physical disabilities pursue active lifestyles through physical fitness and competitive athletics.
Marilyn Winters is one of our best clients. With Mike's help (and a LOT of discipline and determination), she has lost OVER 100 POUNDS. We'd love to show you a before picture, but she won't let us. She is rightfully proud to show this picture off, and we are very proud of her accomplishment as well!
Here's what Marilyn has to say:
" When I first started working out, my goal was to lose weight. I really did not consider getting fit, or getting into shape. My only goal was to simply lose the weight. Now, I am doing almost 50 pushups and running three to six miles three times a week. I ran my first 5k in September 2007 in less than 34 minutes. And now, to my own amazement, I can’t believe I just signed up to run an 8k.
At first, I tried working with a trainer from my local gym, and I was not happy at all with the results or the process. Then, I called Clint and he had Michael call me and we set up our first appointment. I started working with Michael, and immediately things were different. Each of my workout sessions has been unique because Michael is very skilled, and he has been able to bring something different to my workout sessions each time. My own stairs became my enemy because Michael figured out a way to use them differently for each workout.
Michael is truly a visionary in where he wants to take me. I go along with him, sometimes kicking and screaming. My workouts with him are always tough, and highly effective. I complained so much about how hard the workouts were, that one day he showed up with the Easy button. I thought that was hilarious! But you know what? Within a year, I have lost over 100 pounds!
Now I am doing things I never imagined myself doing. Just the transformation that has occurred in my body and mind is unbelievable. My trainer is truly committed to my success. We’ve set goals, and we continue to hit goal after goal after goal. One of the most impressive things I can say about my trainer is that his passion has been greater than mine at the times when I needed it the most.
I am looking forward to continuing this journey, and perhaps one day, my stairs will simply be… my stairs."
Kelli first used our Chicago personal trainers to get in great shape for her wedding. A year later, she put on a few pounds, so she is back, and losing weight again.
